I'm taking an EMT course. EMTs are the first ones to arrive on the scene when something happens be it a car accident, suicide, or trouble breathing. That's why I'm a little concerned about what my teachers are telling me. If I'm gonna be there first then I need to know what I'm doing because otherwise my ignorance could cost someone their life. Therefore, I need to trust my teachers to train me. The following are a few words and phrases I've heard in class:
Periphial (instead of peripheral)
Tibula (instead of tibia)
Thoratic cavity (not thoracic)
big trauma thingy (?)
That's only a few that I pulled off the top of my head. They mispronounce medical terms all the time that I already know. If they can't get their terms right then how can I trust the other things they say? To make matters worse I've received conflicting instructions from various teachers who teach in our class. A few times they have told us the exact opposite of what the teacher told us in the previous class period. That kind of worries me. I know hyperventilation is no big deal, but what if it's important and they do that? Then we had the four hour lecture on back safety. I could have summed it up in five seconds: Lift with your legs and don't twist your back! That was basically the whole lecture. Four hours long. Not kidding.
There are silly little things too, but they're important to us students. Every single test there has been a large portion of material that we haven't covered yet. Then we cover that material the following week. Does that seem backwards to anybody? The class, however, is quite easy which also worries me. I've taken a total of four pages of handwritten notes this semester. I do not own the textbook nor have I read any of it from other sources. The guys at my table and I make fun of the teachers, lectures, and our classmates all throughout each class period when we're not physically bandaging amputated arms or extracting people from imaginary car accidents. And yet, I got a 90% on the last test. Let's pray that our EMTs are being trained adequately because next time you need help it might be me who shows up.

I'm still stuck on the fact that anyone is allowing you be a father...let alone an EMT. :) I'm just kidding you'll be a great EMT. :) I'm just kidding again...you'll be a good dad too. But I don't know if I'd let you babysit my kids. We'll see if yours survives the first couple months.
I do wish you had at least bought the book. Maybe the book wouldn't have been as confusing as your teachers.
Maybe you should buy the textbook.... Seriously, Jacob! Truly people's lives will be in your hands--shouldn't you take the time to get the information from the correct source?!!
Remind me not to get into any accidents.
