Forever Sick

I've been sick for a full two weeks now. That doesn't happen to me. Let me tell you about my attempt to get ready for my Radiochemistry test. At Mizzou it's different from BYU (as I mentioned in a previous post). One of the big differences is that you take tests in class here. At BYU you usually had three days or so where you could choose exactly when to take your test and you had no time limit. You'd go to the big testing center and take your test at your leisure. It's not like that here. It's nice not having to find free time to take a test. It's nice knowing that the test is designed to take less than an hour.

There are some pretty negative points though. You have to take the test in less than an hour. No time for rethinking or going over your answers. Constantly checking the clock. And you better not be late for class. Do not oversleep. There is no flexibility. You show up in class on the specified day and you take that test or you just get a 0% and that's that.

Well, I don't have a problem with that except my test was Friday morning at 8 am and Thursday my sickness got about ten times worse. My fever jumped to 102.5. I was shaking uncontrollably and aching all over. I couldn't eat. I was vomiting. I couldn't think straight. I couldn't sit up without almost passing out. And all this was after being sick for a week and half already, so I was weak and tired and worn out. And I was supposed to take a test in 12 hours.

I emailed my professor telling him my situation. I never did hear back from him and I had a sneaky suspicion that he didn't really care if I was dead, but I better be there to take that test. He probably though I was making it up to get more study time. Luckily for me, sometime in the night my fever broke and I fell asleep. I woke up in the morning feeling like death with a wrung out feeling like I'd been put through the washing machine. But I managed to get to class with some prodding from Julie and I took that stupid test and I passed it. Barely.

And here I am on Monday. Still sick and doing a presentation in forty minutes. Papers, labs, observations, problem sets, and quizzes. I want one of three things. Let me drop over dead. Let me get better. Or let the heavens open and snow bury the university so it takes months to get classes going again.

Dropping over dead is not an option. Either of the other two would be ok with me though.
