Libya

Has everyone been watching the news lately? Tunisia and Egypt both had their governments toppled and a number of other countries are in unrest. Then we've got Libya. The screwball in charge doesn't want to give up. He's been in power for forty years and he's already in big trouble with the international community for the things he's done. The situation in Libya quickly degenerated from protests to a civil war. And all I'm seeing in the news is "Should the US step in to help?"

No! The US should not step in to help. This is not our fight. We've already got troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. I think we should pull out of both of those countries, but that's a seperate issue. The situation in Libya is none of our business. Not our people, not our allies, not our problem. Why does the US feel the need to get involved in every little dispute in the world? That's why everyone out there in the world hates us. Because we're always sticking our noses into everything.

Our country is broke. Our people are unemployed. Instead of spending billions of dollars on the rest of the world how about we spend that money here? We've got way too many of our own problems to keep dealing with everyone else's problems especially when they don't even want our help. And we seem pretty hypocritical to me. If the US wants to be involved in bringing down the corrupt leaders then why didn't we say anything when they were in power? We did nothing at all, but as soon as the people stand up for themselves we go "Hey yeah! You jerks in the government! How dare you! Step down!" What are we trying to do? Convince the people that we were on their side all along? Cause we weren't. It's all just political manuevering.

Here's what we should do about Libya. Watch. Make sure it doesn't spill over into something more than an internal conflict. Besides that I will repeat that the situation is none of our business. Let's get back to worrying about that ridiculous health bill or how the government is trying to screw over teachers. Let's fix the school policies that are getting kids criminal records for spitting spitwads. Let's worry about us and leave the Libyans to worry about Libya.
