I've been on an old video game kick lately. You remember the old DOS system that used to come on computers? Well, I found a DOS emulator that works pretty well and I've downloaded several old games I used to play as a kid. I'm gonna discuss them here for you. I'd put pictures up, but as you can see from all my previous posts I don't know how to do that.
Castles II: One of the first games I ever played. You try and conquer France. It's like a primitive real-time strategy game. Turns out it's harder than I remember too. When we first started playing this game we didn't know you could speed it up, so we'd sit and stare at the little bars as every few seconds they'd move up a little.
Civilization: The original turn-based strategy game. Ancient graphics, but one of the best games I've ever played. It's still complicated enough to be difficult to do well. I spent countless hours on that game, but it wasn't until downloading it last month that I finally managed to beat it on the hardest difficulty.
Colonization and Master of Orion: Games very similar to civilization. Same basic idea, but each a lot of fun in their own right. I used to very much enjoy slaughtering the Aztecs and Incas for their money. Now I've got some peaceful thing going on. I like to build up strong cities and whatnot. Maybe I should download Sim City.
Xwing: I don't care what anyone says, Xwing is the greatest flight simulator ever made. It's fun, it's hard, and it's in the Star Wars world. They should make a new one with a multiplayer component.
I couldn't believe how well I remember the controls and hotkeys for these games. I felt like a man possessed playing xwing as my fingers just remembered what keys did what. And how did I remember on Master of Orion that Alt+M would make a 5x5 grid come up? I may have spent a lot of time on this stuff, but it was time well spent.
